Terms of use
Plain language, no surprises. Using the API or a key means you accept these terms. If anything here is unclear, email support@ausdata.io before you build on it.
What the service is
ausdata.io is a passthrough and convenience layer over public Australian government data. We fetch from nine official sources, normalise the shape, and serve it under one key. We are not the originating publisher of any figure, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by any of those agencies.
Attribution you must reproduce
Every source is licensed under Creative Commons (CC-BY 4.0 or CC-BY 3.0 AU, depending on the agency). Each response carries the exact attribution string for every source it touched in the meta block. If you publish, display, or redistribute the data, you must reproduce that attribution. This is a condition of the underlying licences, not just of these terms. See the provenance table for the per-source licence.
Your key
A key is a bearer token tied to the email you registered. Keep it private; treat it like a password. You are responsible for calls made with your key. The free tier is 500 calls a month with no credit card. Paid tiers and quotas are described on the pricing page.
Acceptable use
- Respect the published rate limits. A
429means slow down and obeyRetry-After. - Do not attempt to bypass quotas, share a single key across unrelated products, or resell raw API access as if it were your own gateway.
- Do not use the service to misrepresent the data or strip its attribution.
Reliability and data accuracy
The API returns the current published vintage, or it fails clearly. It does not serve an older vintage as the current answer; if a source is unavailable and the only cache would be stale, you get a 503 with Retry-After. Build one retry into your client. We take care to pass the figures through unchanged, but the data originates with the agencies and we do not warrant it is free of upstream errors. Verify against the official source for anything consequential.
No warranty, limited liability
The service is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. To the extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising from use of the service is limited to the fees you paid in the prior three months, which is zero on the free tier.
Changes
We may change these terms or the API. Breaking API changes are versioned. Material changes to these terms will be reflected on this page. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
